Health Care Assistant 

This program offers prepares individuals to work as front-line health care providers in a variety of community and institutional settings. The program will provide individuals with knowledge and skills to function independently as health care workers and members of the health care team. The total program
length is 38 weeks

Requirements:

• Successful completion of Grade 12 or
• Mature Student status (19 years of age or older) with a minimum of English 10 or
equivalent.
• Interview with Program Manager
Note: All applicants must meet the English language requirement, as per the BC Care Aide and
Community Health Worker Registry. If transcripts are unavailable or outdated; and for more
information: Refer to the minimum English Language Competency
Requirements as specified by the BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker Registry.

**MUST HAVE COVID VACCINE**

 

Applicants submit an expression of interest (www.gov.bc.ca/careersinhealth) to the Ministry of Health and
are preliminarily screened for program suitability and satisfaction of prerequisites.

Optional Requirement
• Letter from a family physician stating the applicant is in good physical and psychological
health (as per Program Manager request)
Post-Acceptance Requirements
The following requirements must be met prior to the clinical placement:
• Proof of a Negative TB Test
• Proof of up-to-date immunizations: (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Measles, Mumps,
Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu shot)
• Criminal Record Check
• First Aid and CPR (Basic Life Support)
• FOODSAFE Level 1
• Completion of Non-Violence Crisis Intervention online course
